Good Morning

Today let us discuss about Circumference of Circle .
[ gives models of circle and twine ]

Measure the circumference using twine.
[ writes the measurements on BB]

Measure the diameter
[ writes the measurements on BB]

Divide the circumference by diameter.

What is your answer?
[ writes the responses on BB]

When we divide the circumferences by diameter we got a permanent number.
This permanent number is called  π.
That is = π

 =  π

What is the relation between diameter and radius ?

This is the circumference of the circle.

What is the circumference of the circle?

Thank you.

Good Afternoon

Today let us discuss about Square prism .
[ writes Square prism on BB]

You know about geometrical shapes.
Can you say some geometrical shapes?

Now look here.
[shows model of square prism]

This shape has length. breadth and height.

This is length[shows]
 This is breadth [shows]
This is height. [shows]

Can you draw this shape in BB?[invites a student]

When we observe this bottom it is in the shape of square. The remaining are rectangles.

When we name a prism, we consider the top and bottom.
Therefore this is a square prism.
[gives the model to students to observe]

What is the area of square ?
What is height?

What is the concept of volume ?

That is the volume of a square prism is a2h.

Can you make like this?

What do understand about square prism?

Thank you.

Good Afternoon

          yes

When we name a prism, we consider the top and bottom and the volume of a square prism is a2h.

Thank you.

Good Afternoon
Today let us discuss about Cylinder. First of all let’s consider this rectangle[shows]

A rectangle is a geometrical shape having length and breadth.
What are the features of rectangle?
What is the formula for area of rectangle?
Can you say the features of its sides?
Anything else?

What about angles?

Now consider this circle[shows]
What is the area of circle?
What is perimeter?
What is π?

Now watch this.
This is a cylinder[shows]
Have you seen any objects like this shape?

Cylinder has a curved surface, base and top. The base and top are in the shape of circles. If we cut the curved surface we get a rectangle [shows]. The breadth is equal to the perimeter of cylinder. The base is in the shape of a circle. The perimeter of circle is 2πr. Therefore we can say breadth of rectangle is 2πr.
What is the breadth of rectangle?

Represent the height of the rectangle as h. Then we get the area of rectangle is 2πrh.
That is area of curved surface of cylinder is 2πrh.
What is the curved surface area?

Also the area of base and top is 2πr2. Therefore the total surface area of cylinder is      2πr2 + 2πrh
That is 2πr [ r + h ]
What is the total surface area?

We know the volume of every prism is base area  x  height.
Therefore the volume of cylinder is πr2h.
Today we learned about the curved surface area, total surface area and volume of cylinder.
The curved surface area is 2πrh, the total surface area is 2πr [ r + h ] and the volume is πr2h.

Thank you.

Good Afternoon

Have length and breadth.

length x breadth
